The GlobalTouch session border controller (SBC) is one of the most scalable in the industry. The SBC is designed as an integral component of our VoIP platform. We chose to build our own SBC, along with the rest of our VoIP technology, because 4 years ago when we entered the VoIP sector none of the platforms offered what we were looking for - that is to say scalability, flexibility, no finger pointing and no expensive hardware requirement. By the same token, our SBC is not a multi-protocol solution; rather it is bound only to SIP and it uses specific features of SIP to increase performance, reliability, and ease of maintenance. The SBC supports T.38, which allows reliable faxing over IP, and works much like a traditional SIP Proxy in that it shares many of the same features, but uses SIP protocol to communicate with devices behind fire walls. Because we created our own SBC we have complete control over NAT traversal - with no finger pointing, no license fees. Our SBC is also optimized to release the RTP stream to endpoint SIP devices whenever this is possible. This offers several benefits, chief among which is voice traffic that can flow between two devices using the shortest available route. This enables higher quality of service, and substantially decreases bandwidth utilization, which translates into lower operating costs. The latest release of our SBC also supports user friendly, real time video telephony. This can be delivered to end users at a low OPEX for any kind of service provider. All-in-all, our SBC is a compact, yet powerful solution that offers a network border interface for reliable signaling, address and port translations, security, and quality of service (QoS) as well as bandwidth management. |
